Mahakumbh 2025 LIVE: Judicial Commission team reaches Sangam to investigate Mahakumbh stampede

The three-member judicial commission formed to investigate the stampede on Mauni Amavasya has intensified its proceedings. The chairman of the commission, retired Justice Harsh Kumar, held the first meeting with the officials in Prayagraj on Friday. After the meeting, the Commission also inspected the site near Sangam Nose. Retired Justice Harsha Kumar, who headed the commission, said the topography and circumstances of the incident were being studied. CCTV footage and other evidence will be analysed in depth.

Let me tell you that there was a stampede in the crowd gathered for bathing on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya in Prayagraj Mahakumbh. At least 30 people were killed and more than 60 injured. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has formed a three-member committee to probe the incident. The commission, headed by retired Allahabad High Court judge Justice Harsha Kumar, also includes retired IAS officer D K Singh and retired IPS officer V K Gupta. The committee has to submit its report within a month’s time. The commission will investigate the causes and circumstances of the stampede. He also warned that such incidents should not be repeated in future.
