Mahakumbh stampede: 30 dead, 60 injured in stampede

A major accident took place in Mahakumbh on Wednesday on Mauni Amavasya. There was a stampede near Sangam Nose late in the night. Around 90 people were injured in the incident. All the 30 injured were rushed to a hospital. At least 60 people are being treated for injuries. Of the 30 pilgrims killed, 25 have been identified and five are being identified. The injured have been admitted to the SRN Hospital. Apart from Prayagraj, the deceased hailed from Bihar, Jharkhand and Kolkata.

Late on Wednesday evening, Mela Officer Vijay Kiran Anand and DIG Vaibhav Krishna gave details of the accident at Sangam Nose on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya. He said that before the Brahma Muhurta, a huge crowd had gathered on the Akhara road in the mela area between 1 am and 2 pm. Due to the pressure of the crowd, the barricades on the other side were broken and people came to the other side by breaking the barricades and started crushing the devotees waiting for the bath on the Brahma Muhurta.
