Scissor Style Keyboards To Replace Standard Butterfly Keyboards In Macbooks

The MacBook butterfly keyboard points feel like part of a never-ending story, even after multiple attempts to improve the MacBook keyboards. Now, it seems the company could also be near putting the problems behind it completely, as a report from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo obtained by MacRumors suggests the company will use a brand new keyboard design in 2020.

The new design will use a more conventional scissor-switch mechanism, based on Kuo. He says, “there have been  developments in the new scissor keyboard. The new keyboard may enhance the typing experience by providing longer key travel and durability by adopting glass fiber to reinforce the keys’ construction.”

The longer key travel would likely means a higher-profile design than the present butterfly keyboards, but Kuo believes “most users cannot tell the difference.” Kuo expects the newly designed keyboards to seem in MacBook Pro fashions in 2020, which means any new MacBooks in the works that come out earlier than then might still be stuck with the butterfly keyboard.
